What is 3D Secure?
3D Secure is an online service designed by Visa and MasterCard and offers you additional protection when shopping securely with your credit card on the Internet. For the use of the Visa credit card the application called "Verified by Visa" and for the use of the Mastercard "Mastercard ID-Check" was created. So that the purchases on the Internet can be successfully completed via the registered provider, the cardholder confirms the payment process either by TouchID / fingerprint or by PIN via the "TransactVerify" app or by entering a transaction number related to the individual sales and sent by SMS (mobileTAN) that he commissioned the payment.
Since the introduction of the Payment Services Directive PSD2 (short for Payment Services Directive 2), new legal regulations have been in place for the security of digital purchases. Internet traders in the EEA are therefore required to only submit transactions with strong customer authentication.
